Hello Neighbor!
I am running for State Senator – so I want to share with you a bit about who I am and why I am running.
I grew up in Sweet Home, and I love our rainy weather and beautiful green forests. I worked as a lifeguard at the Sweet Home Pool, and I graduated as valedictorian from the Sweet Home High School.
I went to school in Utah at Brigham Young University. While there, I completed both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Dietetics. At the same time, I worked as an early morning custodian and in university food production to help financially support my education. I also started a family with my wonderful husband, and we now have two beautiful kids.
We moved back home to Oregon and I started my career as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (a food and nutrition counselor) with the Supplemental Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). This was my dream job! I am honored to spend my days helping families in my state get access to food and nutrition education.
Now, I am running for State Senate. Why? I was tired of feeling angry, sad, and powerless whenever I watched the news or spoke with families that were struggling. I started to get involved in local community and political groups such as East Linn Indivisible and Linn County Democrats. I wanted to have my voice heard and help out in any small way I could. I know that we are stronger when we work together, and I wanted to be a part of “together.” At this moment, that desire to be involved led to my candidacy for Senate – we needed a Democratic voice at the table, and I was ready to be that voice however unexpectedly I arrived here.
I love our community, and I would be honored to be your Senator.
Sincerely,
Sierrah Williams
